New Wine Releases!

For those of you who have been waiting for Serendipity, the wait is over!  This deliciously sweet strawberry & grape wine is perfect to share with friends and family during this holiday season!  This is a limited release and is bottled in a 375 ml bottle.  It is a "must have" for your wine rack!

Fireside Memories has been released as well!  This sweet, yet tart blush wine is a perfect pair for your turkey dinner next week.  It's also a nice wine to sip on while cuddling up in front of the fireplace and enjoying the company of your loved ones.

Fun Wine Facts

Instead of expanding your wine vocabulary this month, I found some really fun and interesting wine facts to share with you.

Did you know that American wine drinkers consume more wine on Thanksgiving than any other day of the year?  Guess that means you guys better get in here and buy some wine!!

November's flower is the Chrysanthemum and has been the focus of Oriental adulation for centuries.  The Chinese believe that a Chrysanthemum given to one's beloved, after its being used to wipe one's mouth after drinking wine, will ensure undying love and fidelity.  The Japanese believe that a single Chrysanthemum petal placed in the bottom of a wine glass encourages a long and healthy life.  I'm definitely growing some Chrysanthemums next year if these are true!

And last, but certainly not least, let's exercise your brain with some Grape Math!!!

1 grape cluster = 1 glass

75 grapes = 1 cluster

4 clusters = 1 bottle

40 clusters = 1 vine

1 vine = 10 bottles

1200 clusters = 1 barrel

1 barrel = 60 gallons

60 gallons = 25 cases

30 vines = 1 barrel

400 vines = 1 acre

1 acre = 5 tons

5 tons = 332 cases

Wine for the Holidays

I've been getting a lot of questions about different types of wine out there and what goes best with your holiday meals.  Here's a list of a few white wines and a few red wines that would go well with your holiday meals.

White Wines

Chardonnay - Chardonnay can range from clean and crisp with a hint of varietal flavor to rich and complex oak-aged wines.  Chardonnay typically balances fruit, acidity and texture.  This varietal goes well with everything from fish and poultry to cheese, spicy foods and nut sauces.

Pinot Grigio (Pinot Gris) - The low acidity of this white varietal helps produce rich, lightly perfumed wines that are often more colorful than other whites.  The best ones have pear and spice-cake flavors.  This varietal pairs well with poultry and seafood dishes.

Riesling - Reislings are white wines known for their floral aroma.  Depending on where they're made, they can be crisp and bone-dry, full-bodied and spicy or luscious and sweet.  The flavor is often of peaches, apricots, honey, and apples and pairs well with duck, pork, and roast vegetables.

Red Wines

Pinot Noir - Pinot Noir is a red wine of light to medium body and delicate, smooth, rich, complexity with earthy aromas.  They are less tannic than a Cabernet Sauvignon or a Merlot.  Pinot Noirs exude the flavor of baked cherries, plums, mushrooms, cedar, cigars, and chocolate.  This red wine pairs well with fruits and meats.

Petite Sirah - Petite Sirahs are red wines with firm, robust tannic tastes, often with peppery flavors.  Petite Sirahs may complement meals with rich meats.

Merlot - Merlot is a red wine with medium to full body and herbaceous flavors.  Merlot is typically softer in taste than Cabernet Sauvignon.  It's flavors and aromas include blackberry, baked cherries, plums, chocolate, and mocha.  This is a great wine to pair with your selections for this year's holiday meals.

Vintner's Report

IT'S HERE!

IT'S HERE!

LET THE BELLS RING OUT AND THE BANNERS FLY!

IT'S TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE, BUT IT'S HERE!

What's here, you may ask? Fireside Memories is here.

You asked, no, you BEGGED for it, and we now have it available for you, at the winery, the downtown Gettysburg wine shop, and the Farmer's Market in Carlisle.

And, in the opinion of our highly qualified and professional tasting panel (that would be Katherine), it's better than ever.

So then, how do you get some for your Thanksgiving dinner? Come by any of our locations, get some and buy some. That's how.

We have some staff additions this month. Lauren Renee Beamer entered this world on 10 November at 0038 hundred hours a.m. o'clock in the morning. Lauren is the first born of our operations manager, Robert, although you women folk recognize that Robert did not, technically, actually give birth to his daughter. His espoused, Mary, and daughter are recovering nicely. Robert thinks that he is still in charge in his family, but let's just let him live in that imaginary world for another couple of weeks. But congratulations, none the less.

We also have a new marketing assistant, Andrea.  She is an energetic gal.  I think she'll be able to keep up with our mile a minute marketing manager, Jessica, just fine!

Barrel Tasters Club members...I hope that you read your recent members-only email. It's pretty special.

For you non-BTC members, ask how you, too, can obtain that exhalted status.

Number one daughter and number one son-in-law will be joining us for Thanksgiving, and we are looking forward to it. Katherine and I wish you and your family a very Happy Thanksgiving.
