Summer
Concerts |
|
You have waited all year and
now the time is finally here ~ CONCERT
SEASON!!!
Our summer concert series will kick off this
weekend with the Skyla Burrell Blues
Band. From
there, we will have exciting live musical performances on
every Saturday until the end of August. Bring the family. Heck, bring the
dog! This is your
chance to relax for a couple hours on a Saturday afternoon and
listen to some great live music with your favorite bottle of
wine from Adams County Winery. This Saturday will see
Gavin making his Adams County Winery culinary debut on our
grill. (We survived his grilling at our employee party in May
so he's been cleared!)
He also has a special blueberry Sangria to complement the bluesy
sounds from Skyla. If you enjoy Sangria, we give a free recipe
card with your purchase of Three Ships To The
Wind.
The concert is from 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. We can't
think of a better way to spend a Saturday on Independence
weekend. See you
there!
Attention All Adams
County Residents who stopped by the farm or wine shop
locations on either February 23 or February 24, 2008 for Local
Resident Appreciation Day for your free glass of wine and
COUPON. GET OUT THAT COUPON. Look in your
"junk" drawer. That is where you probably put it for safe
keeping. REMEMBER that that coupon is redeemable
(one time only) on ANY concert day for up to TWO purchases
that
day.

Tasting Room
News |
|
We have added several new, charming individuals
to our tasting room staff. Among these are David (he
speaks excellent German, and I think has called John several
bad names in German), Jennifer (Cathy's sister), Jared (summer
student help, and Cathy's nephew), and Jean (speaks German AND
Mandarin. Not related to Cathy). Lovely Michelle
is back for the summer, while school is out. Also, if we
get busy, you'll get to meet Maggie (resident carpenter) and
Amanda (computer whiz extraordinaire).
It is our busy season so when you visit the
winery, be patient with us. We enjoy your company, and
want to give you GREAT service. So rather than
treating you like a herd of cattle, we treat you as
individuals. This means we take more time with you than
at the wineries in a left-coast state known for wine and
weirdoes.
Other good stuff in the tasting room - lots of
new t-shirts, especially the ones with the sparkly thingies
that make the ladies look so nice. Among the tees are
"Living in Zin", "It's 5 O'clock Somewhere" and "Wines
Constantly". There is also a clever hat that says "Wine
Princess" in the sparkly stuff. (Note to Big Biker
Joe. This hat is probably not for you). Other T- shirts
include "Drinks Well with Others", "I'm Not Getting Older, I'm
Just Getting More Complex", and "I Often Cook with Wine, and
Occasionally I Use It in the Recipe". And don't forget,
there is the ever popular shirt with John's picture on
it. Sure to be a collector's
item.
Also, rustic vineyard wrought iron votive
candle holders (whatever the heck that is) for your outdoor
entertaining occasions. We also have a cork-shaped
candle for a mere $1.50 that can be inserted into your empty
wine bottles. Cute.

Bikers, while the supply lasts, ask for your
"Bike Blessing" pin.
The tents are erected, the picnic tables are
out, and it has been a mild summer, so stop by, get a glass of
wine, some cheese and/or sausage (or bring your own picnic),
and enjoy the farm environment.
Last Tasting room news. We have now added
an "Employment" page to our website. If
you are interested in working at Adams County Winery and
finding what jobs are available here, then go to www.adamscountywinery.com/employment.htm

Vintner's Corner |
Life is good. The grapes have
gone beyond bloom and into fruit set. Our crop load
looks to be the best that we have had in my entire time
here. We should have a good harvest. That leaves me lots
of space in my column to wax eloquent. As a starter,
have you ever noticed that no one ever wanes eloquent?
Just wax. Wax on. Wax off. The
boss and I took a trip on Sunday morning to the greater
Taneytown metropolitan statistical area for the purpose of
breakfasting. We stopped at Rich's Diner located on
MD140. Good breakfast, friendly waitress, clean, and
affordable. All those things that I look for in a diner
now that I am old. I recommend it to you for your
breakfasting pleasure. They have a sad but interesting
story on how they named the diner. The first one of you who
visits the diner and tells me the story of the naming gets a
free bottle of wine on your next visit to the winery. Please
submit your entry to diner@adamscountywinery.com no later than
Friday, July 11, 2008 at 5:00 p.m. The winner will be
announced in our next newsletter. A WORD ABOUT POLITICS. SAVE THE
DATE. It's not too early. And it's a wonderful
show, especially if you like to see politicians get skewered,
lambasted, taken to task, and ridiculed. I am talking
about the 2009 version of the Capitol Steps performance to be
held at the gorgeous Majestic Theater in downtown Gettysburg
on March 28, 2009. All profits go towards the Gettysburg
Rotary Club's charitable endeavors. Now let me
see. Is anything going to happen in the political arena
between now and March which will be worthy of parody?
Hmmmmmmmmmmm. Save that date. Ticket details
will come up sooner than you think. Our
"Cooking with Wine" event was a smash. Thirty lucky
participants got to sample some of our Sangria blend, watch
some yummy food be prepared, and then got to EAT the
food. Special thanks go to the Shelley Funt of the
Historic Gettysburg Hotel for putting together such a good
meal. Our Event Coordinator, Gavin, also gets kudos for
organizing the event. Keep an eye out for future special
events, especially since October marks the tenth anniversary
of the SWMBO and me owning the winery! Please
help us out. Tell us what one word, in your
opinion, best describes Adams County Winery. It can be a
word about our service, our products, our wine or anything you
so desire. Please send the word to word@adamscountywinery.com. All
entries must be sent to us no later than Friday, July 11, 2008
at 5:00 p.m. We will announce the winning word in next
month's newsletter so keep your eyes peeled. Your word could
be the winning word!
Another special here. One bottle of
wine will be given to the person who first correctly
identifies what "SWMBO" means. As always, all wine must
go to a legal adult and upon an actual visit to the
winery. BroArtie, you are forbidden to play because you
already know the answer. Give the other people a
chance. In the meantime, I will be at Pomeroy's. Please
submit your answer to pomeroys@adamcountywinery.com no later
than Friday, July 11, 2008 at 5:00 p.m. The winner will
be announced in our next newsletter so do not go out of town
for vacation during this time or you will miss this.
(Ooooooo! Ooooooo! Was that a
hint?) Gavin and Cathy are putting together some
nifty ways to celebrate our tenth anniversary. Our
celebration will take place the weekend PRIOR to the first
Saturday in October, because the first Saturday in October is
the first weekend of the Apple Harvest Festival. You old
hands know what a zoo it is around here on those days.
We will have a booth at the festival, so stop by and say
hi. MUSIC ALERT. Our first concert,
featuring the delightful Skyla Burrell and her Blues Band,
will be conducted at the winery on July 5th from 1300 hours to
1700 hours (1 p.m. to 5 p.m. for you non-military types.
For you Air Force types, Mickey's big hand will be ... oh,
nevermind). Be here! Certain things
apply: - Bring your own food if
you want, or you can purchase the hamburgers and dogs that we
will have available. Or cheese, crackers, summer
sausage, etc. - PLEASE no outside
alcoholic beverages are permitted. We are providing the
music free of charge. We want you to buy our wine.
It's the courteous thing to do. - We
will be checking IDs as you drive down the driveway.
Have 'em ready for Maggie. In exchange she will affix a
wrist band to your wrist (duh) so we know who is of age and
who isn't. - Most important, have a good
time BUT please remember that this is a holiday weekend and
there are many people on the roads. We encourage
designated drivers and if you feel you are unable to drive
please let us know. We will be happy to get you to your
designation safely. We want to see your smiling face at
all of our concerts!
(Cue "Born to be Wild") Well,
campers, it's time to go ride the motorcycle. See you
soon! John G. Kramb

Host Your Event
at the Winery |
Summer is here and love is
buzzing around the winery. A special congratulation goes
out to Barry and Suzanne, pictured here, who celebrated their
one year wedding anniversary by revisiting the place they made
their sacred commitment - Adams County Winery. They were
married here a year ago on June 30, 2007. Suzanne made a
very beautiful June bride amongst the birds, colorful
butterflies, and just budding flowers in the winery
gardens. The winery offers many options for weddings from
hosting bridal parties to wedding receptions and even wedding
ceremonies. E-mail gavin@adamscountywinery.com to schedule
a meeting with Gavin Green, our Event Coordinator and have him
show you the many possibilities the winery has to offer for
your special day. Or for any occasion you want to
celebrate

| WALKING & WINE - - A recent study found
that the average American walks about 900 miles per year.
Another study found that Americans drink, on average, 22
gallons of wine a year. That means, on average, Americans get
about 41 miles to the gallon. Kind of makes you proud to be an
American.
(Thanks to Ellie
& Jim!)
