Adams County Winery Creates Wine That Helps Inspire Environmental Stewardship

ORRTANNA, PA (September 6, 2022): Adams County Winery, Gettysburg’s original winery and the fifth oldest operating winery in PA, created a now sold-out blush wine to raise funds for the continuation of local environmental stewardship in collaboration with Strawberry Hill. The winery has donated a portion of all the proceeds from the specialty wine, Nature’s Preserves, to Strawberry Hill so that they can continue their valuable mission within the community.

Adams County Winery’s General Manager, Dan Baumgardner, presented the donation of $1977.65 to Dan Brennen of Strawberry Hill on August 29, 2022, at the Adams County Winery Farm Winery location in Orrtanna, PA.

“Taking a look at our 2022 to-do list, creating a wine that gave back to our community was very important to us. We have so many great local organizations around us and being able to spotlight one of them while also giving back felt like the perfect combination. Strawberry Hill is one of the only education centers in Adams County that works to educate the community on taking care of the environment, so we wanted to highlight their many years of cherished work and help them continue that mission. Moving onto the next stage, it only felt right to create a strawberry wine as it fit perfectly with their name!” said Dan Baumgardner, General Manager at Adams County Winery.

Nature’s Preserves was a blend of Catawba and strawberry wine, sweetened with strawberry juice and steeped in basil for over a week. This sold-out, small-batch creation was crafted by ACW’s Winemaker, Bernard Cannac, who stated that “We wanted to create a unique wine, something that was just as unique as Strawberry Hill is, and we were able to achieve that with Nature’s Preserves.”

Adams County Winery opened its doors in 1975 in Orrtanna, PA, and is currently Pennsylvania’s fifth oldest operating winery, as well as the Gettysburg area’s original winery. The Farm Winery location sits on over 75 acres of rolling hills and farmland while operating out of an 1860’s registered historic bank barn. In 1988, one of their most popular wines, Tears of Gettysburg was born and remains one of the oldest wines in Pennsylvania. The vineyard is home to five different varieties of grapes, spanning over 12.5 acres. Adams County Winery is nine-time winner of Best Winery in the Gettysburg’s Greatest awards, and a local favorite spot to relax and enjoy a glass of local PA wine.
